Steel rod (sometimes called drill rod) that has been threaded along its entire length. (Picture a very long bolt without its head.) The material comes in a variety of diameters and threads per inch (tpi), and usually measures 36" long. You hacksaw it to any desired length to create everything from custom bolts to adjustment mechanisms for jigs.
