I need to make a wishing well with an octagonal rim, using 2x6 material. How do I figure the length of each segment so that the inside dimensition is a pre determined size? I know the angles have to 22 1/2 degrees, but I am stumped as the the length. I am sure there is a formula to figure this out, but I AM STUMPED. john jkeasey@comcast.net thanks 7  out of 10 found this valuable. Do you?

found the answer in a crown moulding book. Take outside (finished) length and devide by 0.414, this gives the long length of each segment. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

the length is what's called the chord length of a segment of a circle. You can look up chord length calculators on google Do you find this valuable?
